Despite the low participation of agriculture in the state economy, Guanajuato is the number one producer of wheat, strawberries, broccoli and onion in the country and the second producer of tomato.

96% of the economic units correspond to the micro-industry just like the country’s tendency shows. The PyME’s ( small and medium enterprises) make up 50% of the State GDP and 80% of the jobs. 39% of the state population is economically active.

Though only 47 % of the active population receives up to two minimum wages- this is lower than the nations average of 51%- the state is rated as highly marginalized, which means that indicators such as illiteracy, life conditions, basic services, health services and salary deprive most of the population from dignified life conditions.
