About Riviera Maya

Riviera Maya is the name of an incredible tourist zone of more than 120 kilometers of coast located between Puerto Morelos and Punta Allen in the Mexican Caribbean. This natural paradise is part of the state of Quintana Roo, on the eastern side of the Yucatan Peninsula. Riviera Maya is at present the number one tourist destination in Mexico, and one of the most popular in the world.

History tells us this zone was one of the most important religious and commercial centers for the ancient Mayan civilization during the "“post classic"” period (between 1000 and 1550 b. C.). To understand the history of every natural and cultural site of this zone, please refer to the Mexican states of Yucatan and Quintana Roo and each of their cities.

The main and most popular destinations in Riviera Maya are:

1) Cities: Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Cancun, Tulum, Puerto Morelos, Puerto Aventura, Isla Mujeres, Punta Allen

2) Archeological zones: Punta Laguna, Coba, Tulum, Kohunlich, Muyil, Xaman-Ha,

3) Natural Paradises: Sian Kaán

4) Natural Parks: Xcaret, Xel-Ha

Riviera Maya has an endless list of amusing places and activities to enjoy like white sand beaches, scuba diving -less than 10 meters deep under water over the spectacular coral reefs that form the Great Mayan Reef, snorkeling in underwater rivers, discovering ancient Mayan Cities, practicing ecotourism, fishing, hiking, horse riding, visiting the most important theme parks in Mexico, and the observation of magnificent local flora and fauna elements. Also important to mention are the most exclusive hotels and restaurants, golf courses, spas and nightclubs to fit every taste and need.

As for the hotel and tourist network in Riviera Maya, it is worth mentioning that local and foreign investments made since 2005 have resulted in the construction of over 373 hotels or 27,000 rooms, all needed to receive the 2.2 millions of tourists that visit this area annually, and which generates an average occupancy of 72%. For the year of 2007, it is expected that the room offer will reach the 35,000 rooms to accommodate the 3.2 million expected tourists.

Everything else to say about Riviera Maya and the Mexican Caribbean can't be explained, because it is a destination that, at least one time in our life, everyone should personally enjoy, so our final recommendation"… ¡VISIT RIVIERA MAYA!
