The 7 airports with the most important flow of passengers
In a country where tourism is a major revenue is not surprising that the airport industry is growing and the top 15 airports in the country received an average of just over 10% increase in the number of travelers regarding last year (2015 figure). Similarly, one can say that having more than 55 international airports and just over 10 national (excluding military bases) Mexico has a good structure of air transport (which undeniably needs improvement). Here is a brief of the top airports which welcomed more visitors:
<
1.-Mexico City International Airport Benito Juarez
It is located in the Venustiano Carranza municipality and is undoubtedly the main airport in Mexico. In 2015 it received just under 38 million 500 thousand passengers, being the international passengers 12, 758, 500. It should be noted that this is already saturated and therefore in Mexico there is the process of replacing it with a new airport with more capacity . Its IATA code is MEX and is directly operated by the government.
2.-Cancun International Airport
It is located just a little less than 10 milles from the city of Cancun in the state of Quintana Roo. In 2015 it had 19, 596, 485 visitors. It has three terminals being the newest one opened in 2016. Its IATA code is CUN, while the organization Grupo aeroportuario del sureste is commissioned to conducting its operations. It should be noted that it is an airport with more passengers flow than load usage.
3.-Guadalajara international airport Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla
Like the above mentioned is just over 15 kilometers from the center of the downtown obviously in the state of Jalisco. 9 million 759 thousand 222 were the visitors who had it in its facilities during 2015. In the same way that the city of Mexico, its operation is insufficient to meet the flow of flights it receives and its two runways and two terminals have been exceeded. Its operator is Grupo aeroportuario del Pacifico and its IATA code is GDL.
4. Monterrey International Airport Mariano Escobedo
It is located 15 milles from the municipality of Apodaca in the state of Nuevo Leon. During 2015 it attended 8,461,917 travelers. It has four terminals (three for passengers and one for cargo), a friendly installation environment and its IATA code is MRY. Grupo aeroportuario Centro Norte administers it. From this top, this is the airport which reported more positive operational variation (18.7%) compared to 2014.
5. Tijuana International Airport (General Abelardo L. Rodriguez)
Near the University of Baja California and at the end of the road called of the airport of Tijuana in Baja was built this interesting air terminal. 4, 853,797 passengers were those who came here in 2015, its IATA code is TIJ. Like the Guadalajara airport is operated by Grupo aeroportuario del Pacifico and it is from this list the one which has a more comfortable position since is using slightly less than half its capacity. It is also admirable to be a binational terminal whose facilities have both Mexico and the United States exits. Likewise is the airport from Mexico more connected with Asia.
6.-The Puerto Vallarta International Airport (Gustavo Diaz Ordaz)
A little far over 4 milles of Puerto Vallarta in Jalisco and near the border with the state of Nayarit this airport is located. It is one of those that has picked up more in recent years and whose airlines most desire an expansion of the flow and facilities. Its IATA code is PVR, is also owned by Grupo aeroportuario de Pacifico. It overpasses for the first time in 2015 to number 7 of this list since there were 3, 565, 613 passengers in its facilities throughout the year.
7.- Los Cabos International Airport
It is located just over 6 milles and half from the city of Los Cabos in the state of Baja California Sur. The IATA code assigned to this facility is SJD and is on the verge of saturation, partly because its buildings were damaged in 2014 due to Hurricane Odile. 3, 475,199 people visited its facilities in 2015. Operated once again por Grupo aeroportuario del Pacifico.
As a final point it should be mentioned that this order is entirely different if we consider the gains that leaves to each airport operator. In fact the number seven would be the most profitable, followed by 6 (Puerto Vallarta) and the third would be the Guadalajara again. Even more amazing is the fact that more revenue comes from these airports that the ones obtained from the Heathrow of London. Also it is expected that after completion of the Mexico-Toluca train the airport of this last community suffers a dramatic increase in its operating flow. The latter and the fact that several of the listed need to improve their operational capacity should put the industry in a position to invest.
