Boating in Puerto Vallarta and the Riviera Nayarit

This route takes us through the coasts of the states of Jalisco and Nayarit, place of one of the most popular Mexican beach destinations: Puerto Vallarta and another beach, less visited than Puerto Vallarta, but still very beautiful: the Riviera Nayarit.


Puerto Vallarta


With more than three million visitors every year, Puerto Vallarta is the most visited place of the Mexican Pacific. Its legendary beauty, its dawns, the beautiful Bay of Banderas, its mountains, friendly citizens, ecological treasures, cuisine, and its brand new facilities for playing golf, have made this tourist destination one of the preferred in the country. Let’s see some of the amenities it offers:


The Marina Vallarta offers space for more than 400 yachts, (which just admiring the boats makes it an attraction in itself!), 5-star hotels and Grand Tourism hotels, like the Velas Vallarta, the Meliá, and the Westin Resort Puerto Vallarta, among others, make this place a very exclusive area for the tourist. Also, very close to the Marina we can find the Marina Vallarta Golf Course which has 18 championship holes, designed by the American Architect Joe Finger.


Marina Nuevo Vallarta. A modern construction, its facilities can hold up to 270 boats and if you visit this place during the month of March, you could either participate or admire the International Banderas Bay Regatta, organized every year by the Ministry of Tourism in Nayarit.


El Tigre Golf Course. Known as one of the most exciting golf courses in Mexico, El Tigre is located along an area of 6.5 kilometers long. It was designed by Architects Von Hagge, Smelek and Baril, which are known for being the designers of more than 200 acclaimed golf courses worldwide!


The entrance to the course is marked by an impressive stone archway, reminiscent of the Mayan ruins, and a Bengal Tiger as well. A huge club house is located in the center of the place, offering a magnificent view of all the facilities.


Vista Vallarta Golf Course. The Golf World Championship took place at this professional course during the year 2002. With an extension of more than 193 acres, the club has two courses of 18 holes each. The first was designed by the golf legend Jack Nicklaus, and the second by golf star Tom Weiskopf.


Vista Vallarta is the central point of a tourist development that includes hotels, SPAs, exclusive residences and time-shared properties, which makes it an inviting and exciting place that you should definitely visit!


Sayulita Beach. Ideal for new surfers, its soft waves allows visitors to venture into this marvelous sport. Here we can find a camping area which allows tourists to extend their stay at this beautiful region of the Mexican Pacific. Sayulita Beach is located on Highway 200 and is also considered a fishing village. Tourists usually mingle with the residents in a relaxed and polite environment, having the possibility of traveling to Puerto Vallarta, just 30 minutes away, to enjoy an evening of exciting entertainment.


Punta de Mita. This picturesque fishing town is located in the southeastern part of the Riviera Nayarit. Punta Mita is only 40 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta and offers visitors incredible beaches, a dense jungle and the chance to visit the authentic Mexican rural scene. In its area we can find an ample variety of hotels, resorts, and restaurants.


One of the most outstanding hotels of this region is the Hotel des Artistes, which has only twelve very exclusive rooms with gymnasium and kayak services amongst others. Rincón de Guayabitos. This bay has a history: It was discovered by the Spaniards while they were in the evangelization process of the Californias and exploring the Marias Islands. Furthermore, it was visited by English and Dutch pirates in the XVI and XVIII centuries. Rincón de Guayabitos is the ‘must’ place to escape from the daily hustle, since it holds various small and medium hotels which provide personalized attention by the same family that lives in them. Here, you can enjoy of a warm environment, at an accessible price and in a place that will make you feel at home!


San Blas. This area is well known by surfers. Its Matanchén Beach is famous for forming the longest wave in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records. Every year this place is packed with surfers that want to be part of this great wave that rises occasionally in this area and can transport surfers for more than two kilometers! Besides this unsurpassed attraction, the area offers beautiful beaches, a display of colonial architecture and an array of history, i.e. the soldiers of the battalion that defended the Castle of Chapultepec during the North American invasion, were natives of the Port of San Blas.


With an abundance of species of migrating birds in the estuaries, boat rides, interesting diving areas, crafts that you can admire as they are made by the authentic Huichol Indians, aquatic sports, and an enjoyable and hospitable environment amongst others, this region of the Mexican Pacific offers the visitor a multitude of places to relax and admire the beauty of the sea and nature.
