Tulum, Mystical Paradise

Among white sands and exuberant jungles is the mystical Mayan city of Tulum. This city is unique, constructed by the Mayas who built their religious and civil structures next to the sea. It is located in the Yucatan Peninsula, in the State of Quintana Roo, on Mexico’s southeast, 90 miles away from the city of Cancun. Tulum is divided into three areas, the Hotel Zone, the Town and the Archeological Zone. On the first are some of the most spectacular beaches of the Caribbean; many are still considered virgin, distinguished by their simple architecture showing a profound respect for the environment; something that has been so forgotten nowadays. Its rustic cabins and small hotels were constructed with utmost respect for harmony with the natural beauty of its surroundings.

Tulum is constituted by a main avenue on which all commercial activity takes place. Offering crafts, small restaurants, and basic services as the bus station, bank and post office. In the area known as the Mayan Zone, and in the small neighboring towns, residents have tried to preserve their language and traditions; most live in original huts with palm roofs. Their main economic activities are fishing, hut building, crafts and rustic furniture, among others.

The ancient city, built on the highest point of a 40 feet cliff overlooking the Caribbean, spans over the vestiges of one of the wealthiest cities in the Mayan world. You can find important archeological sites nearby: Coba, located 26 miles to the northeast of Tulum and Chichen Itza, found 99 miles away on the same direction. Doted with unparalleled natural beauty, the region has a vast tropical jungle hosting a series of natural wells the Mayan called “cenotes”, also, its peaceful beaches receive the yearly visit of thousands of marine turtles that choose these beaches to lay their eggs.

If we search, we find a physical and spiritual opportunity to practice meditation and yoga, enjoy the famous ancient Mayan steam bath, known as Temazcal. These are only some of the many possibilities in this paradise, the reason why Tulum is the ideal eco-archeological site for the lovers of nature, sun and history.
