Marcelo Ebrard Causabon was born on October 10, 1959 in Mexico City. He studied high school at Universidad la Salle, where he was known for his academic excellence. Marcelo Ebrard got a Bachelor’s Degree on Foreign Affairs from El Colegio de Mexico, institution considered one of the best for studies and research in the country. He then studied Public Management in France and after returning to Mexico in 1981, he became part of the Ministry of Programming and Budget. In 1987, Marcelo Ebrard coordinated the creation of General Law on Environmental Balance and Protection. In 1997 he was elected Federal Deputy and in 2002 was named Secretary of Public Safety for the Government of Mexico City. In 2005 he was named Secretary of Social Development, responsible for conducting social projects. As candidate for “Coalición por el Bien de Todos”, he triumphed in the 2006 elections with a vast advantage for Chief of Government for Mexico City during the 2006-2012 administration. His government has been known for supporting people with scarce resources and the elderly, as well as rehabilitating the historic center as a tourism site through by relocating all street vendors.
