Governament of San Luis Potosí

Dr. Fernando Toranzo Fernandez, Constitutional Governor of the State of San Luis Potosi, as born on September 12, 1950 at the city of Venado and is married to Dr. Maria Luisa Ramos Segura. He obtained his Medical Doctor degree at the Faculty of Medicine, where he later specialized on General Surgery in Universidad Autonoma de San Luis Potosi. Given his vast experience in the health sector, he has twice been named Minister of Health in the entity, first by former Governor Fernando Silva Nieto (1997-2000) and later by former Governor Marcelo de los Santos Fraga (2003-2008). Before his post as Secretary of Health, he was Director of the General Hospital of Ciudad Valles from 1981 to 1997; Director of ISSSTE Hospital at Ciudad Valles in 1982 and Surgeon for IMSS hospital from 1981 to 1986. He was part of the LVI Legislature of the State (2000-2003) representing district XII. During his post as local deputy, he presided the Health and Social Assistance Commission. Dr. Toranzo Fernandez was a founding member of the Surgeon Society of San Luis Potosi and the Huasteca Medical Society. He has also excelled academically as professor of nursing, surgery and legal medicine at institutions such as UASLP and CONALEP. Active member of Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI), he was elected Governor of the State of San Luis Potosi for the 2009-2015 term.
